Understanding Your FMCSA Clearinghouse Record

The FMCSA Clearinghouse is a secure online database providing real-time information about drug and alcohol policy violations committed by holders of commercial driver’s licenses (CDL). A driver’s FMCSA Clearinghouse record is incredibly important to their job status and future job applications.

Drivers Should Look at Their Clearinghouse Record

Commercial drivers should access their own FMCSA Clearinghouse record to understand what details are on there. Additionally, drivers may check their records to make sure that no incorrect information is on their file. Potential employers will look at a driver’s FMCSA Clearinghouse record before proceeding with a candidate for a job posting. If you haven’t already, click here register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse.

After registering for an account, commercial drivers can access their records electronically, at no cost. The driver’s information will be stored by date of birth and CDL number. Drivers will also be notified, by mail or electronically, whenever new data is added, removed, or modified.

FMCSA Clearinghouse records include positive drug and/or alcohol test results, test refusals, and any other relevant drug and alcohol policy violations. When an employee completes their return-to-duty process with a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), the details are recorded in Clearinghouse records.
