Man Caught Transporting Drugs Faces Charges
A Florida man caught transporting drugs now faces criminal charges such as possession of a controlled substance and possession of narcotics with the intent to deliver after he was apprehended while attempting to smuggle around 800 pounds of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia.
Man Caught Transporting After Traffic Violation
The trucker was arrested thanks to a DEA Special Agent who was tipped off by an informant who overheard the truck driver imply that he was trucking illegal substances that originated from Washington. The DEA agent then contacted Wyoming Highway Patrol who later learned that the trucker was attempting to drive to Long Island, NY. On May 29th, a Highway Patrol officer noticed the truck on HWY 212 and eventually succeeded in pulling the truck over after the driver committed more than one traffic violation.
The officer then questioned the driver, who allegedly had alcohol on his breath, regarding the shipping papers for his load. After explaining that he did not have the papers, he claimed that his truck was carrying car parts. After telling the officer about his pay per trip, the officer calculated that, if the driver’s claim was true, the driver would have been earning $2 per mile, an unheard-of wage in the industry. The officer then allowed his K9 to attempt to detect controlled substances. Eventually, the K9 revealed that the driver was carrying large quantities of drugs and paraphernalia. The driver, who had been the subject of prior convictions regarding driving under the influence of alcohol, was then arrested and booked after the officer called an ambulance when the driver claimed that he was having a heart-attack.
