Looking for a SAP Provider in California?

If you’ve been involved in an accident while on the job as a DOT (Department of Transportation) mandated employee and tested positive on a drug and/or alcohol screen, you will need to follow return to duty guidelines that are set by the DOT. As an employee, you will need to find a DOT qualified SAP provider in California and comply with their recommendations to be approved to return to duty in your safety-sensitive position.

What Will a SAP Provider in California Do?

In order to be cleared to return to duty, a DOT employee must undergo evaluations with a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). A SAP is a qualified professional as required by the DOT. The SAP will evaluate those who have tested positive for drugs and/or alcohol. When you meet with your SAP, you will undergo a clinical interview and assessment testing, and based on the results, be referred for treatment, counseling, and/or education.

Return to Duty with a SAP Provider in California

There is an initial face to face interview with your SAP, which may include a drug and/or alcohol screening. Depending on the results of the assessment, you may be referred to educational classes regarding the effects of drugs and alcohol, counseling sessions and/or inpatient/outpatient treatment for substance abuse.

Once you have completed the SAP’s treatment plan, you then will meet for a final evaluation/interview. Once the SAP has determined that you have successfully completed their treatment plan, they will sign off and you will be eligible to be considered to return to duty.
