Learn More About the DOT SAP Evaluation
Employers with safety-sensitive employees typically want their employees to get through the DOT SAP evaluation and treatment process quickly so they can resume their safety-sensitive duties.
Following a DOT drug and/or alcohol testing violation, the employee should undergo the SAP process as soon as possible. The SAP begins by providing an evaluation to determine employee recommendations for treatment or education.
Arranging a DOT SAP Evaluation
Once a DOT drug and/or alcohol testing violation occurs, the employee should rapidly arrange a SAP evaluation. The quicker the individual gets back to work, the less the losses are for everyone in terms of productivity.
The quickest way to find a SAP for an evaluation is to contact SAP Referral Services (SRS). SRS is a leader in connecting employees to DOT SAP return-to-duty programs. SRS provides employers and employees with a network of SAPs around the US.
What Happens Next?
DOT-mandated, safety-sensitive employees must submit to drug and/or alcohol tests before being employed in safety-sensitive positions. In addition, they are also subjected to random testing, and testing after certain accidents on the job.
Should they fail a test, they must immediately stop their safety-sensitive duties and begin the return to duty process by finding a SAP in their area.
The SAP will:
- Perform a face-to-face evaluation with the employee and recommend treatment and/or education
- The employee needs to follow the SAPs education and treatment recommendations and provide proof of compliance
- The employee must submit to an observed return-to-duty test and produce a negative result for drugs and/or alcohol
Only once the employee completes these steps can they be considered for return to safety-sensitive work.
