Find a SAP in Pennsylvania Quickly!

In 1991, the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act was passed to implement drug and alcohol testing of safety-sensitive transportation employees in order to maintain the safety of the public and the workers. Employees are tested upon preemployment, after certain accidents, as part of the return to duty process, with reasonable suspicion, and at random. If you refuse or fail a test you’ll be immediately removed from your safety-sensitive job.

If you failed a test and you need a SAP in Pennsylvania, or anywhere nationwide, SAP Referral Services can find you a DOT qualified SAP in your area.

The Return to Duty Process

When you fail a test, not only will you be out of a job but you can not work in any safety-sensitive position until you complete the return to duty process. After your failed test, you will receive a SAP (Substance Abuse Professional) list or a referral to a SAP agent from your employer. You must meet face-to-face with your SAP for the initial evaluation. The SAP will recommend a treatment and/or education plan based on your unique situation. These individually tailored programs can include outpatient treatment, inpatient treatment, group therapy, educational programs, and more.

When the treatment plan has been complied with, there will be a follow-up evaluation with your SAP. If your SAP determines compliance, they will send a report to your employer and then you’ll be recommended to submit to a return to duty test. If you pass the test you can resume safety sensitive work.
